This story actually happened last year, but I had not posted it. A few things in the last few months have strongly reminded me that not only do I should I post this, but there’s a huge lesson here for me!
Our family cat, Bosco, who believes he is human, has truly become a part of our family. He was a stray and it took me eight months to get him close enough to even eat on our deck. My husband didn’t like cats, and was asking “Why are you doing this? We are never home and I don’t even like cats”. Then suddenly Bosco was jumping in my husband’s lap and becoming his new best friend. So, now, two years later, he is such a part of our lives. I need to check our will to see if Bosco’s name is on there instead of mine! He may get the jewelry!
The real story is that he is teaching us so many lessons, and I wanted to share one with you. One of my dear friends, Cindy, Bosco’s “aunt” as we call her, gave him some catnip. It was really a treat for him and I had never seen a cat have catnip before. What a treat it was!
We were remodeling our kitchen and I had forgotten that I had put the catnip in a grocery sack and it was in a plastic bin with the things that we used on a daily basis. Somehow Bosco did some detective work and found it. I found him rolling around on the floor, with his head in the grocery sack, and having a blast! He had torn through the baggie and had the catnip open in the bag and on the floor. We couldn’t stop laughing, and he just kept going, and was licking up every last drop until it was gone. He then proceeded to get on his, and yes, it’s his blanket and take a nap. We were amazed. In fact, the picture is blurred because he was moving so fast and rolling all around, and I couldn’t get a still shot. I put the catnip in our office, on top of my husband’s desk. Guess what, he found it there and had it open again in the office, once again, enjoying his pleasure! What a hoot!
I posted on Facebook, and I always get some great comments on Bosco’s antics. My dear friend , Susan Tolles, said, “We should all take lessons from Bosco and find what we love, roll around on the floor and truly enjoy it.” I said WOW, you are so right. It made me stop and think and about how we don’t do the things we love for so many reasons, and we are giving up so much and for what.
Sometimes, I think it’s fear of what others will think, sometimes it’s lack of time, and sometimes we just don’t feel that it’s appropriate! I always wondered who “they” were that defined what was “appropriate”. Bosco didn’t care what was appropriate, he took the time, he was fearless and determined in getting to the things that he loved, finding his pleasure and do what he enjoyed!
My “catnip” is a Starbucks vente, decaf, café americana, with sugar-free vanilla and splenda. I sometimes beat myself up because I drink too many of these a day and that I am spending money foolishly. I also have an expresso machine and that I should be making them at home.
So, I am going to take Susan’s and Bosco’s advice and continue on with my “catnip”, and maybe even roll around on the floor and enjoy the things that I truly love! I LOVE my Starbucks!
How about you? What is your “catnip”? What would make your smile and so really happy, and perhaps even “roll around on the floor like Bosco”?
I would love to hear from you! ENJOY your catnip and have fun!
PS: Bosco says he needs more catnip, so I will give him some today!
